Kearney Mayor Stanley Clouse has been named recipient of the Friend of Social Work Award for 2011 from the University of Nebraska at Kearney Department of Social Work.
He received the award at a reception in his honor on the campus. During the reception, Mayor Clouse will be presented the Friend of Social Work Award by Dr. Maha Younes, co-chair and professor in the UNK Department of Social Work. In addition, the reception commemorated the scholarship and legacy of both his late wife Leeann and their son Jeremiah.
“Stanley is a friend of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, an outstanding civic leader, and a dedicated supporter of social organizations that serve the needs of all citizens,” Dr. Younes said. “His late wife Leeann was a social worker who inspired others through her selfless service and advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations and the community.”
To support the educational goals of future social workers, Mayor Clouse has established the Leeann and Jeremiah Clouse Social Work Scholarship.
“Through her work at Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska, and the numerous boards and organizations for which she volunteered, she touched the lives of so many,” Dr. Younes said, adding that Leeann graduated from the UNK Department of Social Work, maintained a strong connection to the department, and greatly supported the needs of the department and its students.
“Donations to the scholarship fund are always welcomed,” Dr. Younes said. Those wishing to contribute may do so through the University of Nebraska Foundation, which has offices in Kearney as well as in Lincoln and Omaha.
