Eight students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney earned top honors or were finalists in the National Association of Teachers of Singing state competition (NATS) held recently in Lincoln.
Earning top honors were Tyler Koepp of Grand Island, who won the high school men’s division, and Brooke Scripter ofHoldrege, who earned first place in the senior college women’s division.
“We are proud of our UNK music students and their results in this competition which involved more than 250 students from across Nebraska,” said Dr. Anne Foradori, UNK associate professor of music and performing arts. “NATS provides great opportunities for students to grow as artists and musicians in annual competitions and workshops on the state, regional and national levels.”
Among the finalists were Dana Hilde of Lincoln, Amber Kosmicki of Holdrege, Aaron McCoy of Arapahoe, Katherine Ridder of Kearney, Lauren Rudolph of Ogallala and Liza Thalken of Kearney.
UNK music faculty Dr. Sharon O’Connell Campbell, Dr. Andrew White and Dr. Foradori mentored the students.
NATS was founded in 1944 and is now the largest association of teachers of singing in the world with more than 6,500 members in the United States, Canada and over 25 countries around the world.
