Freshmen will be hosted on the campus at the Honors Get Acquainted-Get Together event from 3-4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. Members of the Honors Program Student Advisory Board will help host the event.
“There are 142 incoming Honors freshmen, and this is one way we can bring them together to get acquainted,” said Jane Christensen, UNK Honors Program coordinator.
The event is part of the annual Blue and Gold Welcome Week activities, which are taking place Aug. 20-29 on the UNK campus and in the Kearney community. Events scheduled during the welcome week are designed to help students become acquainted with the UNK campus and the Kearney community.
The freshmen class will join more than 480 current UNK Honors Program members, who have a combined grade point average of 3.76 on a 4.0 scale. Of these members, more than 60 are UNK athletes and most participate in campus organizations.
To be considered for membership in the UNK Honors Program, students must submit an application, have an ACT score of 26 or above, be in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class and submit a written essay, along with two letters of recommendation.
