UNK- Rachel Ramsey Cruze, daughter of financial guru Dave Ramsey, will keynote $martMoney Week
activities Monday, Nov. 8, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Ramsey Cruze will address the High School Financial Literacy & Education Summit which takes place
from 10:30 a.m. – noon Monday (Nov. 8) in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room. Her topic is
Invest in Yourself. Among the high schools that will be attending are: Amherst, Aurora, Axtell, Gibbon,
Kenesaw, Kearney High School, Newman Grove and area members of the Home School Association.
From 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., Ramsey Cruze will address UNK students in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa
Room. Her topic for the afternoon presentation is Finding Your Financial Peace: Lessons on Handling
Money for Teens and Young Adults.
“College ushers in a new chapter in a person’s life,” said Mary Rittenhouse, director of the Center for Economic
Education. “It also has the potential to set the stage for financial stress and conflict for years to come. Ramsey
Cruze will talk to students about taking necessary steps now to establish financial peace.” Rittenhouse organizes
and directs $martMoney Week offerings.
Ramsey Cruze was shown at a young age how to follow in her parents’ footsteps. Dave and Sharon Ramsey
taught their three children the four main areas of money: working, saving, spending and giving. Unlike other
kids, Ramsey Cruze was not given an allowance. Instead, she was paid a commission, learning that life will
not make “allowances” for you, but it will pay you what you earn.
By the time she was in high school, Ramsey Cruze was ready to handle an entire household budget, and she paid
cash for her own car–a used BMW–when she turned 16. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, she has been
speaking to audiences of 3,000 – 10,000 since the age of 16.
The appearance by Ramsey Cruze is sponsored jointly by the College of Business and Technology, the Center
for Economic Education and Phi Beta Lambda, the college counterpart of Future Business Leaders of America.
After her presentations in Kearney, Ramsey Cruze will give a speak at a high school summit on Tuesday,
10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., in True Hall Gymnasium at McCook Community College. Her presentation in McCook
is sponsored jointly with the UNK College of Business and Technology and a number of McCook businesses.
