UNK- At 8 p.m. on March 25, the University of Nebraska at Kearney Nebraskats Show Choir will take the stage at the Kearney Community Theater in a benefit concert. The Nebraskats, under the direction of Dr. Annabell Zikmund, are in the process of raising funds for a two-week performing tour of China in May.
The Nebraskats are a 13-member show choir, accompanied by a five-piece band. All of the members of the Nebraskats are full-time students at UNK and represent many areas of study. They are selected by competitive auditions each spring from the 50-75 students who audition throughout the year.
This year’s group performs a variety of music styles and genres including Broadway show tunes, medleys of songs by various groups and popular music from the 1930s to the 1990s.
Each spring the Nebraskats tour the state, performing for selected high schools, elementary schools and various other organizations. They are also invited to sing for numerous banquets, statewide conventions, meetings and campus activities. Highlights of the past years include performance tours of Japan, Washington D.C., Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and England. The Nebraskats have also entertained UNK alumni groups in Nebraska, California and Arizona.
Tickets for the benefit concert are $10 and can be reserved through the UNK music office at (308) 865-8618, Kearney Floral and Shopping Tripps. Tickets, if available, will be sold at the door the night of the show.
