UNK– The sounds of flutes will fill the rooms and halls of the Frank House beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.
The Flute Studio performances are under the direction of Franziska Nabb, a University of Nebraska at Kearney lecturer of music. The students are all a part of her studio.
“Performances by UNK musicians are a holiday tradition at the Frank House,” said Sarah Jones, Frank House director. “Whether it is flutes, tubas or choirs, music always makes the house feel alive and welcoming.” The Frank House, which is located on the UNK West Campus, has been decorated for the holidays. Christmas trees, greenery and lights are on display throughout the 1890s mansion.
According to Jones, the Franks loved music; George William was in a men’s choir at the First Presbyterian Church, and the younger Franks often hosted dances at their home.
“Music is a large part of the Victorian era social and holiday tradition,” Jones said. “Some of my favorite Christmas carols date to the 19th century including ‘Deck the Halls,’ published in 1881, and ‘Silent Night,’ which is based on an 1816 poem by an Austrian priest.”
The flute studio performance is one in a series of Saturdays at the Frank House presentations. The event is free and open to the public; however, donations to the Frank House are always accepted. For more information on Saturdays at the Frank House events visit www.unk.edu/offices/frankhouse.
