UNK – Work by long-time social worker Gary Henrie of Hastings has been recognized with a newly established scholarship in his name at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The scholarship, titled the Gary Henrie Scholarship in Social Work, was announced recently in conjunction with the 2010 child welfare conference that took place on the UNK campus.
Henrie, who worked at the South Central Behavioral Services (SCBS) in Kearney, retired earlier this year.
“Gary’s support of social work education, presence on the Social Work Advisory Board and his relentless legislative advocacy to ensure that Nebraska’s rural residents have access to affordable quality mental health services is commendable,” said Dr. Maha Younes, UNK professor and chair of the Social Work Program. Henrie and SCBS employed many UNK graduates over the years.
