UNK– University of Nebraska at Kearney students will be in the Kearney community Saturday (April 24) collecting toiletries for the Nebraska AIDS project, according to Aimee Adams, Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity president.
“We (Alpha Phi Omega members) dropped off sacks around Kearney with a small description of toiletry items needed and a message asking residents to leave the sack out on the front porch on Saturday,” Adams, a Kearney native, said. “This is helping out the Nebraska Aids Project, because they have been low on toiletry items for a while now.”
In all, students dropped off 1,000 bags within the Kearney community last Saturday. According to their Web site, the Nebraska AIDS project acts to eliminate the spread of HIV and provides comprehensive services to all people affected by HIV and AIDS.
The toiletries drive is supported through a grant from the UNK American Democracy Project. The American Democracy Project is a multi-campus initiative focused on higher education’s role in preparing the next generation of informed, engaged citizens.
