UNK– Selections by Brahms, Beethoven and Bridge will be featured in the UNK Faculty Piano Trio performance Monday, April 19, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The UNK Faculty Piano Trio includes Dr. Ting-Lan Chen on violin, Dr. Noah Rogoff on cello and Dr. Nathan Buckner on piano. The performance, one of a series of Concerts-on-the-Platte, is sponsored by the UNK Department of Music and Performing Arts. The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall, and is free and open to the public.
The trio will perform a selection by Beethoven titled, “Piano Trio No. 4 in D Major, Opus 70/1: ‘Ghost’” and “Piano Trio No. 3 in C minor, Opus 101” by Johannes Brahms. They will also perform a piece titled, “Miniatures for Piano Trio” by Frank Bridge.
Dr. Chen, a native of the Republic of Taiwan, earned both her M.M. and D.M.A. degrees in violin and chamber music performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. An active soloist and chamber musician, Dr. Chen was the first-prize winner of the 1991 National Chamber Music Competition in Taiwan and appeared in the Young Musician Concerts at the White House and United Nations in 1995.
Dr. Rogoff has performed as a soloist in master classes taught by Steven Isserlis, Paul Katz and Nathaniel Rosen. He has won top honors at the Schubert Club, Society of American Musicians and the Beethoven Club. In addition, Dr. Rogoff was a winner of the Walter Judd Fellowship at the University of Minnesota, which funded his travel and research on the cultural ties between Vienna and the music of Arnold Schoenberg. He earned both his master of arts in music theory and a doctorate in cello performance from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Rogoff has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra and the United States Coast Guard Band.
Dr. Buckner has performed across the United States including solo recitals at the Alice Tully Hall and the Kennedy Center. In addition, he has toured to Taiwan and Mexico, and has performed in China, Hong Kong, Korea and Slovenia. He currently is pianist for the UNK Faculty Piano Trio. Dr. Buckner earned his undergraduate degree from The Julliard School, a master of music degree from Indiana University and a doctorate from the University of Maryland.
