UNK– The University of Nebraska at Kearney Concerts-on-the-Platte series on Monday, March 22, will feature flutist Dr. Allison Fletcher.
Dr. Fletcher, who recently relocated to Central Nebraska, is a substitute for the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra and will join the Nebraska Army National Guard 43rd. Army Band in the fall. She was a three-time finalist at the United States Navy Band auditions in 2008 and 2009, and a finalist at the President’s Own Marine Band audition in 2009. A specialist in piccolo and chamber music, she has performed with the Fibonacci Chamber Orchestra in Greensboro, N.C., and with various university orchestras, wind ensembles and woodwind quintets.
The Concerts-on-the-Platte series is sponsored by the UNK Department of Music and Performing Arts. The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
She will open the recital with Vivaldi’s “Concerto in C Major for Piccolo, Strings and Cembalo, RV 443.” She will be accompanied on piano by Dr. Nathan Buckner. Dr. Jan Harriott, UNK associate professor of music, will play clarinet with Dr. Fletcher on Shearer’s “Bagatelles.” Dr. Seth Fletcher, a UNK lecturer in music, will play euphonium with Dr. Fletcher on “Five Miniatures” by Gaines. Dr. Fletcher will conclude her program with the performance of Poulenc’s “Sonate pour Flute et Piano.” She will be accompanied by Dr. Marilyn Musick on piano.
Dr. Fletcher holds a bachelor of music degree in flute performance from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., and a master of music degree in flute performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. In 2008, she received a doctor of musical arts degree in flute performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
