NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH GUEST SPEAKER JOSEPH MARSHALL III WILL PRESENT ‘STORYTELLING’ WEDNESDAY, NOV. 8, AT UNK

Native American Heritage Month Guest Speaker Joseph Marshall III will present “Storytelling” from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room.
    
An award-winning author, Marshall III has written 10 books, including the highly acclaimed The Journey of Crazy Horse: A Lakota History  and The LakotaWay: Stories and Lessons for Living.  A book signing will take place after the presentation, which is free and open to the public.
    
In his career, Marshall has taught at the high school and college levels, been an educational and health programs administrator for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, a craftsman of primitive Lakota bows and arrows, an historian and a writer.
    
He helped to form a nonprofit advocacy group for Native American students and parents, develop and implement a Native American studies curriculum, organize the planning and design phase for the construction of a hospital and serve as a founder and charter board member of Sinte Gleska University.  
    
In addition, he is an actor, appearing in The Real West, Return to LonesomeDove and Steven Spielberg’s mini-series Into the West, where he also served as Native American technical adviser.
