The University of Nebraska at Kearney Biology Club will host an educational Raptor Recovery Nebraska presentation at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, in Copeland Hall, Room 142.
Jeanine Lackey, a wildlife biologist and volunteer with Raptor Recovery Nebraska in Elmwood, will give a presentation about Nebraska’s birds of prey. Lackey will also bring three or more live raptors that have been saved by the Raptor Recovery program.
“Though not all of the raptors have been specified yet, the presentation will include an owl, a red-tailed hawk and a vulture,” said Amanda Hagstrom of Hickman, UNK Biology Club president. “The presentation is perfect for a general audience and will not focus heavily on the scientific aspect.”
This is the second year that Raptor Recovery Nebraska has come to UNK. Admission to the 45-minute presentation is a free-will donation. All proceeds will go to Raptor Recovery Nebraska.
The Raptor Recovery Center was established in 1976 by the Wachiska Audubon Society of Lincoln. More than 6,000 birds of prey have been treated at the center, and more than 50 percent have been released back into the wild.
