Rotary sponsoring two students for trip to Haiti, service project

Rotary InternationalKEARNEY – Rotary District 5630 in central and western Nebraska will provide an opportunity for two people to visit Haiti in May or June and participate in an international humanitarian service project with other Rotarians.

Those selected will be expected to embrace Rotary’s spirit of engaging in volunteer activities and “Light Up Rotary.”

The program – Global Experience in Haiti – is also open to University of Nebraska at Kearney students and employees between the ages of 18 and 26. The goal is to help youths develop global awareness of community needs in Rotary’s “Six Areas of Focus” that include:

  • Peace & Conflict Prevention & Resolution
  • Disease Prevention & Treatment
  • Water & Sanitation
  • Maternal & Child Health
  • Basic Education & Literacy
  • Economic & Community Development

The experience will last between seven and 10 days and take place between May 19 and June 3. Exact dates are yet to be determined.

Rotary District 5630 will pay for the students’ transportation costs. The students will be hosted by, and stay with, Rotarians in Haiti.
