KEARNEY – The Kearney Symphony Orchestra will perform holiday music during its “Celebrate the Festive Season” concert on Dec. 10. Under the direction of Deborah Freedman, the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney.
“It will be a lovely concert that I think people will enjoy,” Freedman said. “It will allow everyone to take a break from holiday shopping and listen to some beautiful music.”
The orchestra will perform “Water Music Suite” by George Frideric Handel and “Brandenburg Concerto #5” by Bach, which will feature solos by University of Nebraska at Kearney associate professor and violinist Ting-Lan Chen, UNK professor and pianist Nathan Buckner, and UNK lecturer and flutist Franziska Brech.
UNK music professor Darleen Mitchell will debut “May We Walk in Harmony,” which features wind chimes, wind sticks, an African drum and other special orchestral instruments.
The Greater Nebraska Children’s Choir directed by David Sackschewski will perform Mitchell’s song in addition to other music during the concert.
Holiday music such as “Carol of the Bells,” “Festive Sounds of Hanukah,” “The First Noel” and “Christmastime” will be performed.
Tickets are free for UNK students and $10 for adults. Tickets are available through the UNK box office at 308-865-8417.
