Chancellor Neal Schnoor shares message on UNK budget

Colleagues,

The last few months I have had the pleasure to interact with constituents across our campus, community, and state. They recognize the quality and value of a UNK degree and value our role in providing quality, accessible education and driving workforce and economic development across our region and state.

You have likely heard President Gold and system colleagues discuss plans to address structural budget deficits. UNK is not immune. Since July 1, I have engaged the leadership team in a systematic evaluation of our budget, obligations, and revenues. Our revenues are lagging escalating expenses, and we must address a $4.5 million deficit across the biennium.

We will need your engagement to move forward strategically, transparently, and collaboratively as we critically evaluate every area of our institutional finances. Our approach will be to prioritize revenue growth while using all means available to make strategic reductions.

I will provide updates to keep you informed and am grateful for your dedication to UNK and our students.

Sincerely,

Dr. Neal Schnoor
Chancellor, University of Nebraska at Kearney
