TITLE: “Dying Young at a Ripe Old Age: Opportunities and challenges with promoting physical activity for quality of life in our later years”
TOPIC: Regular physical activity is one of the most beneficial things you can do to extend the years of your life, but it is even more important for ensuring there is life in your years, particularly as you grow older. Yet, less than 1 in 5 older adults engages in the recommended amount of physical activity. In this presentation, UNK assistant professor of exercise science Nick Lamoureux will discuss the importance of physical activity and fitness, opportunities for evidence-based programs to promote well-being, and the challenges of expanding these programs to rural communities.

PRESENTER: Lamoureux holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in kinesiology from the University of North Dakota and a doctorate in kinesiology from Iowa State University, where he studied physical activity promotion for older adults. In 2022, he joined the UNK Department of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences, where he primarily studies physical activity and fitness during aging. He conducts research on the health benefits of physical activity across the lifespan, the design and improvement of interventions intended to promote physical activity, and the translation of these interventions into community settings to maximize impact.
