Chris Moran, budget director at UNK, received the University of Nebraska Board of Regents KUDOS award during today’s meeting.
KUDOS awards recognize university staff for their professional expertise, service and “superior dedication” to UNK and the University of Nebraska. It is the university’s top staff award.
An Ord native, Moran graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She’s a licensed certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Nebraska Society of Public Accountants.
She’s been with UNK for eight years, serving first as senior financial accountant, then accounting manager. Her reliability and productivity, ability to learn quickly, think strategically and adapt to changing requirements and past professional experience combined to make her an immediately impactful member of UNK’s budget team. Those attributes also led to her transition to budget director in 2019.
“Chris did not hesitate to exercise her Nebraska work ethic when accepting the challenge,” said Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Jon Watts. “She was not only able to simultaneously learn the ins and outs of budgeting, but also helped shape the budget to support the UNK Strategic Plan.”
Colleagues across campus admire and appreciate Moran for her grace, skill and confidence in assuming the important, and often difficult, position of budget director. Her knowledge and demeanor quell the anxiety that often comes with departmental or institutional budget questions.
Moran has been a member of UNK’s Equity, Access and Diversity Committee and Staff Senate. She’s a graduate of Leadership UNK and the Maximizing Organizational Resources Leadership Program.
Moran and her husband Jim are the parents of two adult daughters, Jessica and Taylor.
