TITLE: “Just Sleep Already!”
TOPIC: Good sleep habits are important in many ways, yet humans keep trying to avoid them. Modern society makes it too easy and sometimes required to not sleep when our body needs it. This presentation will cover the many benefits of good sleep habits and offer tips to develop these habits.
PRESENTER: June Pilcher is an Alumni Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Clemson University, where she received the Class of ’39 Award. She earned her doctorate in biopsychology from the University of Chicago, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a research psychologist in the U.S. Army. A fellow in the Association for Psychological Science, Pilcher was a Fulbright-Freud Visiting Scholar in Vienna, Austria, and a Fulbright Specialist for Public/Global Health in Oulu, Finland. In the 2018-19 academic year, she served as a Jefferson Science Fellow at the U.S. Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C. Her research is broadly based on the effects of stress on performance, health and well-being. She enjoys speaking to all types of audiences about the human brain, sleep and other science topics.
