Giving Tuesday comes at important time for UNK; Benefits Big Blue Cupboard

Giving Tuesday LogoThe current health pandemic creates unprecedented needs for the people and organizations we care about, including the University of Nebraska at Kearney community.

Giving Tuesday Now (#GivingTuesdayNow) is a new global day of giving and unity today (May 5) as an emergency response to the COVID-19 virus. Because of the urgency, it takes place in advance of the traditional Giving Tuesday on Dec. 1.

Those who wish to support causes related to UNK on this day have an opportunity to make a difference.

UNK’s campus pantry, the Big Blue Cupboard, is an increasingly invaluable resource and a place where any Loper student in need can come for no-cost food and hygiene items.

UNK and the University of Nebraska Foundation have launched a special, limited-time crowdfunding campaign to help the Big Blue Cupboard at nufoundation.org/bigbluecupboard. Gifts can help with pantry staples, fresh produce, hygiene and toiletry products, or a needed refrigerator.

With students facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 virus, the need for the pantry is greater than ever. As demand increases, one deficit of the pantry becomes more conspicuous: It needs a refrigerator. Cereal, bread and canned soup are kept on shelves, and there is a freezer for reheat-and-eat dinners and other items, but currently there is not a place for refrigerated necessities such as eggs, lunch meat, milk and more.

Those who are interested in supporting the university in other ways can explore the options at nufoundation.org/covid19.
