KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney Pride of the Plains Marching Band will kick off its season with an exhibition Aug. 19.

The first public performance of the school year begins at 7 p.m. at Foster Field, and is part of Blue Gold Welcome Week activities.

Blue Gold is designed to help students become familiar with the UNK campus before classes begin, as well as give the public a chance to interact with students, faculty, staff and alumni through a variety of activities.

The marching band will perform its pregame show and portions of its halftime show during the exhibition.

In addition to performing at all Loper home football games, Pride of the Plains performs in the annual UNK Band Day Parade and Bearcat Marching Festival Sept. 17. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

Other scheduled performances include the Sept. 24 Homecoming Parade and Oct. 22 at the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association State Marching Contest, hosted in Kearney at Foster Field.

The band is co-directed by Brian Alber, assistant director of bands, and UNK Director of Bands/Percussion Duane Bierman.
