Susan Deiger, office associate for the Department of Music and Performing Arts, received the University of Nebraska Board of Regents KUDOS award Oct. 9.
KUDOS awards recognize university staff for their professional expertise, service and “superior dedication” to UNK and University of Nebraska. It is the university’s top staff award.
Deiger has been a member of the UNK Theatre staff since 1998.
In addition to office support – reconciling accounts and budgets, maintaining calendars and schedules, assisting visitors and supervising the office – her position requires oversight of many theatre and dance-specific needs.
Deiger’s long list of responsibilities include: box office operations, including mentoring and supervising student employees; ticketing; coordinating matinees and off-site operations; front-of-house operations; and publicity, including graphic design, press releases, mailings and invitations.
“I am always proud to see the work of our students, faculty and staff on stage in front of an audience,” she says, “and thrilled to be a part of the process, even if just in the background.”
She also produces show programs, including soliciting advertising, creating and editing ad copy, and preparing layouts; and ordering scripts, securing performance rights and payment of royalty and rental fees.
Her supervisor, Director of Theatre Darin Himmerich, describes Deiger as “indispensable” and “the person who gets things done.”
Deiger was also recognized for establishing a high level of professionalism in the box office and front of house operations, including implementation of a computerized ticketing system.
“I graduated with a degree in theatre myself, so I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to come to work every day and immerse myself in the art I love,” Deiger said. “I’m just proud to share this art with others and to be a part of such a wonderful team making it all happen.”
Deiger was recognized and given her KUDOS award at the Board of Regents meeting, which was attended by her husband, Shawn; UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen, Regent Kent Schroeder and NU President Hank Bounds.
