Hank Bounds will assume the presidency of the University of Nebraska system on April 13 and will embark immediately on an extensive tour of Nebraska to meet constituents, with events in Kearney on his first day, Monday, April 13.
Students, faculty and staff are welcome to a campuswide reception from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa rooms C-D. Beverages will be served.
Dr. Bounds is a first-generation traditional college student who has spent his entire 25-year career in education – first as a high school teacher, then as a principal, superintendent and state superintendent – and most recently has served as commissioner of higher education for the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. He was selected for the NU presidency in January following an extensive national search that engaged hundreds of Nebraskans.
His “Getting to Know Nebraska” tour includes stops in 20 communities, where he will meet leaders in agriculture, business, education, civic organizations and news media. The stops include a number of high schools, community colleges and state colleges in addition to NU campuses and research and extension facilities.
Nebraskans are invited to follow updates from the tour at www.nebraska.edu/president, where Bounds will keep a travel journal, and by following Bounds on Twitter at @hankbounds.
