Work by senior visual communication and design majors is on exhibit at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Walker Art Gallery now through Friday, Dec. 14.
The public reception for the exhibit will take place Friday, Dec. 7, from 4- 6 p.m. in the Walker Art Gallery.
“Each student created a three-dimensional installation that includes multi-media presentations,” said Dr. John Fronczak, director of the Walker Art Gallery. The senior exhibit showcases some of the art department students’ best work. The projects are all based on fictional businesses.
Students whose projects are on exhibit are listed below, alphabetically by hometown:
The installation by Andrea Nuxoll of Comstock, “Taste— Vintage Fashion Magazine,” uses photography and graphic design to create high-end fashion advertisements. After graduation, Nuxoll plans to pursue a photography career.
Leah Nelson of Deshler created the graphic design installation “Reflection Creations,” a Christian art studio for children. According to Nelson, the installation includes a booklet, postcards, mailers, a video and other marketing material that would be used to promote the art studio.
Kathrine Griffith of Merna created “The Table Gourmet and Market Catering” installation using Adobe CS5.5. The installation includes printed materials, vinyl cuts and screen-printed items.
“I am interested in cooking and entertaining, so creating a fictitious specialty food store was a perfect way to incorporate my interests into my show,” Griffith said.
Kylie Hauer of Merino, Colo., used Adobe Creative Suite to create and apply designs to wood, glass, fabric and ceramics for her installation of an “Alice in Wonderland” themed dinner theatre.
“I chose this topic because I have a passion for theater, and I wanted to do something that combined graphic and interior design,” Hauer said. “My show uses both to create an environment that involves viewers in the story. I would best describe my show as playful and whimsical with a variety of mixed media.”
The UNK Walker Art Gallery, which is free and open to the public, is open Monday- Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
