ENGLISH PROFESSOR RECEIVES WESTERN LITERATURE ASSOCIATION SERVICE AWARD

Dr. Susanne George Bloomfield, a University of Nebraska at Kearney English professor, has been awarded the Delbert and Edith Wylder Award for Exceptional Service to the Western Literature Association (WLA).

In addition to western American literature, her specialties include 19th century American literature, multicultural literature, biography and memoir, and English education.

Dr. Bloomfield has received numerous academic awards, including the Pratt-Heins Award for Scholarship and Research (2008) and the Pratt-Heins Award for Excellence in Teaching (1995). She has also received the Martin Distinguished Professorship (2005-2008) and the Plains Humanities Alliance Digital Research Fellowship (2006-2008).

Dr. Bloomfield joined UNK faculty in 1979. She holds the bachelor of arts and master of arts in education degrees from UNK, and a doctorate in English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Founded in 1965, the WLA is a nonprofit, scholarly association that promotes the study of the diverse literature and cultures of the North American West, past and present.
