The reception for the University of Nebraska at Kearney Emeriti Art Faculty Exhibit, currently up in the Walker Gallery, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 4, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the UNK Alumni House, 2222 Ninth Ave.
The exhibit which features work created by UNK art faculty after they retired is on display now through Oct. 24 in the UNK Walker Art Gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building. Altogether, the emeriti faculty have given 296 years of teaching and dedication to students at UNK.
The featured artists, the years they taught and their media include: Dr. John Dinsmore (1968-2006), wall hanging and drawing; Kern Harshbarger (1999-2007), acrylics; Elmer Holzrichter (1963-1988), mixed media; Dr. Jack Karraker (1961-2006), acrylics; Keith Lowry (1962-1997), oil; James May (1968-2006), photography; Dr. Larry Peterson (1966-2000), water color and acrylics; Ray Schultze (1965-2000), glass; and Dr. Gary Zaruba (1967-2005), acrylics.
“Each invited emeritus was asked to submit work accomplished since leaving UNK,” said John Fronczak, Walker Gallery director. “The works contributed show a depth of creative endeavor, integrity and the commitment to creativity. The result is works of art that are inviting, efficacious and compelling.”
The UNK Walker Art Gallery is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The gallery is free and open to the public.
