University of Nebraska at Kearney alumni band members will be returning to the campus Saturday, Sept. 8, to perform with the Pride of the Plains Marching Band during half-time on the first home game day, according to Dr. Duane Bierman, UNK director of bands/percussion.
The UNK Alumni Band will march to Foster Field, join the marching band in the half-time performance and also have
a post-game performance in the Hostetler Amphitheater, located just northeast of the UNK Fine Arts Building. This will mark the fourth year that an alumni band has assembled and performed. Among the selections the UNK Alumni Band will play are pep band pieces.
“We have selected two popular pep band tunes for the UNK Alumni Band to play—‘Mercy, Mercy, Mercy’ and ‘Hey Baby,’” he added. “We will have flip folders of music for the alums.” And for those who no longer own instruments, some instruments will be available to check out.
UNK band alumni who want to participate, or want more information, can contact Dr. Bierman at: biermanda@unk.edu or by calling 308.865.8607.
To date, Dr. Bierman said, “We’ve received about 600 responses, and are hoping for an explosion for this year and next.”
The schedule of events for UNK Alumni Band members that Saturday is as follows: 8-9 a.m., registration and instrument check out; 9:30 – 10 a.m., rehearsal at Foster Field; 1:30 p.m., march to Foster Field; 2 p.m., game with joint half-time performance; post game performance at the Hostetler Amphitheater; and 5:30 p.m., alumni reception at Harmon Park.
