The Rural Corps Project AmeriCorps members will be recognized at ceremonies Friday, Aug. 10, at the Nebraska Firefighters Museum in Kearney.
The AmeriCorps members being recognized provided “…thousands of hours of community service,” according to Geraldine Stirtz, director of the University of Nebraska at Kearney Office for Service-Learning and AmeriCorps program director.
The event will open at 11:30 a.m. with opening remarks by Stirtz and greetings by Dr. Kenya Taylor, UNK associate vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and dean of Graduate Studies. A luncheon will then be served.
Beginning at 12:20-12:30 p.m., there will be a “passing the baton” of the Community Partner/Fiscal Agent from Judi Sickler, executive director of the Kearney Area Community Foundation, to Nancy Williams, executive director for the Kearney Public Schools Foundation. The Kearney Area Community Foundation served as the Community Partner/Fiscal Agent for the past three years.
Guest speaker for the event will be Greg Donovan, AmeriCorps senior program officer ServeNebraska-Lincoln.
In all, 19 AmeriCorps members will be recognized, (beginning at 12:45 p.m.). The members and the agencies they served include:
