The deadline for volunteers to sign up for The Big Event day of community service has been extended to Friday (March 9), according to Brandi McHarness of Axtell, a member of The Big Event committee.
The event, which is hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney, currently has more than 200 volunteers signed up and 29 job sites approved. However, according to McHarness, more volunteers are being sought to take part in The Big Event, which is set for Saturday, March 31.
“The Big Event is a great way to give back to the community,” McHarness said. “Just being a part of something this big is incredible.”
Among the confirmed jobsites are the Children’s Museum, Kearney Rotary on the Bricks, Salvation Army, St. James Catholic Church, The World Theatre, First Lutheran Church and a number of individual homes in the Kearney community.
For more information about The Big Event, or to volunteer or request assistance, individuals can email: firstname.lastname@example.org, call Bradley Rediger at 402.641.7359 or visit www.unk.edu/thebigevent.
Last year, more than 500 UNK students and faculty volunteered at more than 80 job sites. Volunteers will participate in service projects that benefit Kearney area nonprofit organizations, churches and individuals.
