Three University of Nebraska at Kearney students received $2,000 in TRIO scholarships at the recent Academic Success Awards and Recognition event.
The TRIO scholarships include one from the Mid-American Association of Educational Opportunity of Program Personnel (MAEOPP) Board of Directors and two from the Missouri-Kansas-Nebraska (MOKANNE) Board of Directors. Taylor Warren of Beatrice received the $1,000 MAEOPP scholarship, and Roxana Chamul of Grand Island and Dustin Forrest of Yuma, Colo., each received a $500 MOKANNE scholarship.
“Taylor (Warren), Dustin (Forrest) and Roxana (Chamul) were selected to receive these scholarships based on their high academic achievements, commitment to excellence and Student Support Services eligibility and involvement,” said Megan Friesen, academic counselor in the UNK Academic Success office. “They value their educational opportunities and seek out additional experiences which help them grow personally, academically and professionally.”
UNK Academic Success is a collaboration of three offices that provide academic assistance to UNK students. Among the services available through UNK Academic Success are college transition and study skills classes, a certified peer tutoring program, a computer learning lab, make-up testing for students, services for students with disabilities, and a variety of additional services that support academic and life-long learning.
Services at UNK Academic Success also include the opportunity for students to become involved in Student Support Services, a federally funded TRIO program that serves students who meet criteria for participation by being a first generation college student, income-eligible or a student with a disability.
