Mysteries of the night sky can be viewed during the outdoor observation of the stars and planets at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Thursday, May 12.

The observation, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 8 p.m. at the west entrance of UNK Bruner Hall of Science. The observation will take place on ground level, and telescopes will be provided.

Dr. Jose Mena-Werth, UNK planetarium director, will instruct viewers on spotting astronomical objects in the night sky using telescopes. Participants have the opportunity to view the moon, the Andromeda Galaxy and possibly Jupiter through the telescopes.

If weather makes telescope viewing impossible, the UNK planetarium will be used to demonstrate astronomical objects of interest for discussion. The planetarium discussion begins promptly at 8 p.m.
