“A Mystery of Titanic Proportion” is set for Saturday, April 30, at the Frank House on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus.

The fund-raiser, which includes dinner, a murder mystery theatre and a raffle, will be from 6-8 p.m. and is limited to 35 guests. The annual event commemorates the ‘unsinkable’ ship that sank on April 15, 1912.

The dinner will include menu items reminiscent of meals served on the Titanic, including shrimp toast appetizers, a spring salad with lemon basil vinaigrette, chicken Lyonnais, roast potatoes, consommé and strawberry sundaes.

“Menu for Murder,” a dinner theatre performance, will be divided into four acts. Guests will be seated at tables of eight players, and each table will receive a booklet of dialogue. Guests will use the dialogue booklet to go through a series of questions and answers to solve the murder mystery.

In addition, a raffle of Titanic-themed items will take place. According to Sarah Jones, Frank House director, there will be small replica of the ship’s bell, a poster-book from James Cameron’s Titanic movie, a replica of the flag of the White Star Line and many other items.

Paula Nesiba of Kearney, an AmeriCorps volunteer coordinator at the Frank House and Titanic buff, will give an overview of the events of April 15, 1912. She will also discuss some of the biographies of the more famous passengers on the ship and introduce some unusual trivia about the Titanic. Nesiba has been studying the Titanic for more than 13 years.

“Gloria LeDroit, Friends of the Frank House member, is also a Titanic buff. She thought an elegant dinner would be the perfect match for the grandeur of the Frank House,” Jones said. “This fund-raiser has significantly contributed to our ability to restore the house, especially the master bed chamber.”

“A Mystery of Titanic Proportion” tickets are $35 per person, and the registration deadline is Monday, April 25. Raffle tickets go on sale Monday, April 18, and are $3 per ticket, or two tickets for $5. The raffle tickets are available for purchase separate from the dinner and dinner theatre performance. Both the dinner and raffle tickets can be purchased at the Frank House, Monday-Friday 2-5 p.m. and Saturday 12-5 p.m.
