UNK– The University of Nebraska at Kearney is “seeing orange” as students carve pumpkins for Halloween projects and contests.

Among the events is a pumpkin carving contest sponsored by UNK Loper Programming Activities Council (LPAC). The contest, which will take place in the Nebraskan Student Union, is set for Wednesday (Oct. 27). UNK students must deliver their pumpkins to the Nebraskan by 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Judging will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The contest is open to all UNK students. Entry forms are available at the Nebraskan Student Union Welcome Desk. A completed entry form must accompany each pumpkin that is submitted for judging.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the best pumpkin carvings. The first place winner will receive $50; second place, $25; and third place $15.

“There is no theme correlated with the event,” said Heather Wolf, UNK Student Activities coordinator. “We encourage students to be creative with their pumpkins.”

According to Wolf, some previous designs have included Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage, Loper-themed pumpkins such as Loper heads and many typical Halloween-themed carvings. Students must provide their own pumpkins and carving materials.

The pumpkins will be on display in the Nebraskan Student Union Atrium Oct. 27- 29.
