Eight University of Nebraska at Kearney students and an attorney with clients in China are featured presenters for “Global Scholars: A Sharing of International Experiences” Monday, Nov. 16, on the UNK campus.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place 7-9 p.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union Cedar Room and is being sponsored by the Center for Rural Research and Development.
The students will share their study abroad and international internship experiences, and tell how those experiences transferred into unique and competitive job skills, according to Carrie Stithem, UNK Center for Rural Research and Development assistant to the director.
Concluding the evening will be a presentation by attorney Larry Slather, a Loup City High School graduate turned international educator and entrepreneur. For the past seven years, Slather has been a legal and business consultant, executive coach and corporate trainer with United Law Firm, Lee and Li Business Consultants, Coca-Cola, General Electric, Shanghai Volkswagen, Schawk, China Telecom and others in Shanghai, China.
Featured student presenters and their topics include: “Global Conference on Young Women in Dubai, United Arab Emirates” presented by Rachael Broadwell of Hastings and Amber Lewis of O’Neill; “Study Abroad Experience – Middleburg, Netherlands” presented by Amanda Olson of Stuart; “International Business Internships in Dublin, Ireland” presented by Brett Debban of Kearney, Andrew Eder-Moreau of Arlington, Va., Lauran Ostberg of Omaha and Megan Marshall of Kearney; and “International Business Internship in Guayaquil, Equador” presented by Nina Batenhorst ofGrand Island.
“During past semesters, we have held multiple presentations highlighting one student or faculty member and their international travel experience,” Stithem said. “We are changing the delivery of our program into a special once-per-semester event that will include several UNK students and/or faculty with a special guest.”
“Global Scholars: A Sharing of International Experiences” is part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Nov. 16-21. Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity, connects young people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.
