Chancellor’s Ambassadors for 2009-2010 Announced

UNK– Newly selected Chancellor’s Ambassadors members have been announced at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Chancellor’s Ambassadors are selected through an interview and application process. They represent their peers at campus functions and assist in hosting special events planned by the Office of the Chancellor. They are frequently asked to welcome university guests and to share the experiences as a UNK student.   

The Chancellor’s Ambassadors attend a one-day retreat and orientation in the fall.  At that time, the Ambassadors study the history of UNK, discuss etiquette and tour campus facilities. 

Chancellor’s Ambassadors for the 2009-2010 academic year are listed alphabetically by hometown:

Creston-
 Emily Wemhoff, a public relations major, serves as the Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity public relations officer. Her other activities include Advertising/Public Relations Club, Loper Programming and Activities Council, Women’s Choir and an appearance in a musical theater production.  Wemhoff has received the National Caring Award, Prudential Spirit of Community Award, been on the Deans’ List, and is a former UNL Student Ambassador.

Gering-
 Bradley Peters, an exercise science major, is a member of the Health Science Club. He serves as an Eagle Scout and intramurals referee. Peters has been on the Deans’ List and is a recipient of a Chancellor’s Scholarship.

Gering- Lindsey Wendt
 is a returning Ambassador majoring in organizational communication. Wendt is a member of the UNK Honors Program, Student Senate, Student Alumni Foundation, Campus Kitchen leadership team and has been on the Deans’ List. 

Grand Island-
 Brad Green is a returning Ambassador majoring in secondary education in history and special education. Green is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, Student Senate, Summer Advising and Enrollment and the St. Jude executive board. He serves as a Student Diplomat and the Loper Liason vice president. 

Holdrege
Cory Shield is a returning Ambassador majoring in business administration and pre-medicine. Shield is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, Student Senate, the UNK Honors Program, Interfraternity Council, and the St. Jude executive board. He has also been on the Deanss List and was named Student Senator of the Month. 

Kearney- John Blecha
 is a returning Ambassador majoring in chemistry. Blecha is a member of the UNK Honors Program, Phi Eta Sigma national honor society, Student Senate, Chemistry Club, Residential Hall Association and Campus Kitchen. 
 
Kearney – Sarah Nordhues
, an elementary and special education major, is a member of Alpha Phi sorority, Loper Liason, Summer Advising and Enrollment, and the UNK Spirit Squad. She serves as a Student Diplomat. 

Lincoln
Lyndsey Luxford, a journalism and mass media major, is a member of Students in Mass Media (SIMM) honor society, Spanish Club and the UNK theater production of “Miss Julie.”

Morrill-
 Jordan Gonzales, a political science major, is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, Student Senate, Green UNK and Cornerstone UNK.  He serves as a Student Diplomat. Gonzales has been awarded the Nebraska Secretary of State Citation Award and the Dean’s Academic Excellence Award.

Omaha-
 Emma Fahrlander is a returning Ambassador who was selected to be the 2009-2010 Ambassador coordinator. Fahrlander, who is majoring in business administration, is a member of Alpha Phi sorority, the UNK Honors Program, and Summer Advising and Enrollment. She serves as a Student Diplomat and was named as the Fall 2008 Outstanding Sophomore.

Omaha – Elizabeth Thomas
, a secondary education and speech education major, is a member of Alpha Phi sorority, Phi Eta Sigma national honor society, the UNK Honors Program, Loper Liasons and has been on the Deans’ List.

Sidney-
 Adam Akerson, a major in finance, is the Omicron Delta Epsilon president, a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society, Beta Alpha Sigma finance honorary society, and has been on the Deans’ List.

Windsor-Michelle Hermesch
, a major in exercise science, is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, the UNK Honors Program, Phi Eta Sigma national honor society, Panhellenic Council, Health Science Club, Women’s track team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has been on the Deans’ List.

IOWA
 
Mt. Pleasant-Bill Hayward
 is an accounting and marketing information systems major. Hayward is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, Student Senate, Beta Alpha Psi financial information honor society, and the Association of Information Technology Professionals.
TEXAS
 
Katy
Claire Bryan is a returning Ambassador majoring in special education. Bryan is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Student Senate, St. Jude executive board, Women’s Tennis team and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Bryan was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic All American and was the 2008 UNK Homecoming Queen. 

INTERNATIONAL
 

NEPAL
 Ayush Uprety is majoring in finance and economics. Uprety serves as a Resident Adviser. He is a member of Student Senate, Phi Eta Sigma national honor society, International Student Association executive board, Financial Leaders Association, Loper Programming and Activities Council, and has been on the Deans’ List.

CHINA
Chuanyao Zheng, a business administration major, is the president of the International Student Association and serves as the International Education Search Committee director, Thompson Scholars Learning Community peer mentor, Chinese Scholars and Student Association student adviser and is a member of Phi Eta Sigma national honor society.
