STUDENTS WIN $1,600 AT THE FAME TALENT SHOW

Ranging from dancing and singing to comedy routines and instrumental performances, University of Nebraska at Kearney students showcased their talents recently to claim top awards and $1,600 in cash prizes in the Fame Talent Show.  

Fame featured separate categories for individual and group entries. Both were judged by members of UNK faculty selected by the Fame Committee.

Faculty/staff judges included Brandon Benitz, assistant to the dean of Student Life; Dr. Janette Harriott, assistant professor of music and performing arts; and Lisa George, educational specialist for International Education.

First through third place winners in the individual category received $400, $200 and $100, respectively. In the group category, first place won $500; second place, $250; and third place, $150.

Individual Category

1st place:      Emma Fahrlander of Omaha performed a clogging routine
2nd place:     Molly Hutchinson of Ogallala performed a vocal solo to the song “When You’re Good to Mama”
3rd place:     Rachel Lowe of Ord performed a vocal solo to the song “Because of You”

Group Category

1st place:     A group called S.I.D., featuring Tsubasa Nogayoshi, Haruna Kawasugi, Hideyuki Furusawa, Ikumi Sawada, Shoko Honda,  Tonomi Sawamura and Yusuke Sasaki of Japan, performed a hip hop dance routine
2nd place:     Jenna and Justine Derr of Amherst performed a lyrical dance routine
3rd place:     Laura Cole and Monica Mueller of Kearney performed a vocal duet to the song “Dancing In the Street”
