NEBRASKATS SHOW CHOIR TO PERFORM SUNDAY, APRIL 1, IN UNK FINE ARTS RECITAL HALL

Music made famous by The Manhattan Transfer, Shania Twain and others will be featured in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Nebraskats show choir performance Sunday, April 1, in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 3 p.m. The group will also perform selections from the musicals “Barnum” and “High School Musical.” In addition, the group will perform medleys of Cole Porter and Motown favorites.

Membership in the show choir is by competitive audition. Members include UNK students from across the state. Vocalists include Alexander Ritter, Columbus; Michaela Nutt, Cozad; Blake Thompson, Dalton; Tyler Kaufman, Elkhorn; Alicia Spelts and Rutheah Williams, Grand Island; Tray Henricksen, Clifford Holman, James Jelkin, Samantha Jenny,and Mary Lillyman, Kearney; and Katherine Bauer, Seward.

In addition to the vocalists, Nebraskats include a three-piece instrumental combo. Combo members are Dillan Riley (guitar) and Dirk Riley (drums), both of Cozad; and Mandy Kalkwarf (piano), Kearney.

Dr. Andrew White, assistant professor of music and performing arts, directs the Nebraskats. Dr. David Bauer, professor of music and performing arts, serves as choral adviser, while Gary Schaaf, professor of music and performing arts, is the resident choreographer.
Dr. White said the performances will offer a good show to those in attendance. “Those who attend will be entertained by a lively, talented and charming group of young people,” he said.
