KLPR, 91.3 FM, campus radio station at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, recently received first place in the entertainment category of the Broadcast Educational Association (BEA) Faculty Interactive Multimedia Competition.
Laura Sherwood, UNK assistant professor communication and KLPR adviser, will give a presentation regarding the winning entry at the BEA annual convention in Las Vegas, which will be held April 18-22.
Sherwood’s research has focused on Web streaming capabilities of KLPR, as well as other campus radio stations across the country.
After achieving production of the KLPR Web site with streaming capabilities, she submitted the Web site to the national competition.
“Since this was a national competition, I really didn’t think our station even had a chance to place. Not only did KLPR place, but was selected first place as ‘Best of Competition: Entertainment Production.’ Just goes to show that Nebraska is capable of producing the best,” Sherwood said.
Sherwood said she is pleased with how Information Technology Services at UNK collaborated with the radio station students in creating the award-winning entry.
“We have a wonderful information technology support system here at the University of Nebraska of Kearney and incredibly talented students,” Sherwood said.
