HANDWRITING COMPETITION PROMOTES LEGIBILITY AS AN EFFECTIVE MEANS OF COMMUNICATION

The promotion of legible handwriting is the goal of the 17th Annual Nebraska Handwriting Contest, which is hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
     
The contest, which began on March 1, is directed by the Department of Teacher Education at UNK, and is endorsed by the Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska State Education Association.
     
The handwriting competition is open to all Nebraskans and includes four separate categories of participants. The categories are for ages 12 and under, ages 13 to 16, ages 17 to 49, and ages 50 and over. Entries will be judged in April.
     
Prizes for the contest are sponsored by Follett’s Campus Bookstore and will be awarded at the end of April. Prizes of $25 for first place and $15 for second place will be awarded for each age group in the form of gift certificates.
     
Participants in the contest copy the official text for their age group. Official texts and contest rules are below.
     
For rules and texts to be copied, participants may send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Nebraska Handwriting Contest, Attention: Julie Agard, University of Nebraska at Kearney, Department of Teacher Education, Kearney, NE 68849. Participants who wish to receive the results of the contest need to include two self-addressed stamped envelopes.
