The Antelope Student Newspaper Staff Announced for Fall Semester

The Antelope  student newspaper at the University of Nebraska at Kearney has selected the managing staff members for the fall semester.

Taking over as managing editor is mass media major and broadcasting minor Kent Lutt ofColumbus. A junior and 2002 graduate of Lakeview High School, Lutt replaces Amanda Muller, who graduated last spring.

“I love working with writers who are passionate about their writing styles,” Lutt said.

Responsible for the news desk for the fall will be international student Julia Stumkat. Stumkat, a native of Rostock, Germany, is double majoring in journalism and sociology with a minor in English.

“We live in an age of globalization in which different nations can learn from each other,” she said. “To network with people from different cultures opens one’s horizon and helps to eliminate stereotypes.”

Senior mass media major and marketing minor Blake Mullanix of Benkelman is editing entertainment news. Mullanix said readers can look forward to the entertainment section providing concert, album and movie reviews for the fall.

Junior news editorial major and mathematics minor Jamie Dusin of Phillipsburg, Kan., is the paper’s sports editor.  Dusin, who is also president of the Honors Student Advisory Board, said, as an editor, she is really looking forward to being able to improve The Antelope’s content, layout and readership. Senior advertising major Francisco Gomes of Teresina,Brazil, is returning as The Antelope’s  advertising manager after working for the paper for more than two years.

Junior Kentucky  native Kathlene Jordan has signed on to The Antelope staff this fall as the paper’s photo editor. Already holding an associate’s degree in business administration from Northeast Community College, the journalism major and business minor said she avidly enjoys writing as well as photography.

Managing The Antelope’s layout for the fall is journalism major Heather Berney of Wolbach.

“I have never had any trouble finding newsworthy people or events at and around UNK,” Berney said, adding that she also hopes the writiers and editors at the paper can keep things interesting for students on campus.

Staff members at The Antelope  are advised by Dr. Beverly Merrick, assistant professor of Communication at UNK.
