The family of Michelle and Tim McGeorge have been named recipients of the 2004 Outstanding Family Award at the University of Nebraska at Kearney this fall.

UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen recently presented the award to the McGeorge family during half-time of a Lopers football game.

It is tradition to honor one UNK family with the Outstanding Family Award during the UNK’s  Family and Band Day. The award is based on a short essay indicating what the student most admires about his or her family, and how family members have encouraged their academic pursuits and served as role models.

Michelle and Tim McGeorge from Craig nominated their parents, Mike and Deann. In their nomination, they wrote, “…We have always been told by our friends how lucky we are to have such a ‘cool’ family, but we are now more appreciative of the little things in life, especially the second chance that we have with our parents … our lives would not be the same without them..”

Michelle McGeorge is a senior at UNK. Her major is secondary education in social sciences with coaching. She is an Ambassador and a member of Leadership Development Council, Order of Omega and Chi Omega. She is the past president of UNK Student Senate and a former Student Regent.

Tim McGeorge is a junior at UNK, majoring in construction management. He is part of the Roger Williams Fellowship group and a member of the UNK football team.

Michelle and Tim’s mother Deann works as a claims analyst at Mutual of Omaha, and their father Mike is an electrician contractor for Miller Electric in Omaha.

Michelle and Tim will each receive $50 in free books, compliments of the Antelope Bookstore, lunch for their family, $50 in points from Chartwells and two Loper Sweatshirts from the Nebraskan Student Union Welcome Desk.
