UNK FAMILY AND BAND DAY SET FOR SATURDAY, SEPT. 25

The University of Nebraska at Kearney Family and Band Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 25.

Registration in the Atrium of the Nebraskan Student Union runs from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Advance tickets are recommended and are available using the UNK Family and Band Day registration form available at the Nebraskan Student Union Information Desk. Luncheon tickets are $5 for parents, $2 for children 12 and under, $2 for UNK students with a 2004 Campus Meal Plan, and $5 for UNK students without a 2004 Campus Meal Plan.

Activities begin at 9 a.m. with the UNK Band Day parade, beginning on Central Avenue and continuing on 27th Street, featuring the UNK Pride of the Plains Marching Band. From 9:15 – 9:45 a.m., and again from 10-10:30 a.m., an educational workshop, “Exploring the Sky,” will be presented in the Bruner Hall of Science planetarium, located in the Bruner Hall of Science basement. From 10-10:30 a.m., an educational workshop, “Chemistry Spectacular,” will be presented in Mary Morse Lecture Hall Bruner Hall of Science.

“Early registration is recommended, as there will be limited seating,” said Jami Schaffnitt, coordinator of University/Student Activities.

College receptions for families will follow in the student union from 10:30 – 11 a.m.  The Family Barbecue, for which tickets are required, will begin at 11:15 a.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union Courtyard. At 12:45 p.m., the UNK Pride of the Plains Marching Band, directed by Dr. Neal Schnoor, will perform a Pre-game Spectacular, with the UNK Football game vs. New Mexico Highlands following at 1 p.m.

“Families are welcome to join their student for dinner from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Commons Dining Room in the Nebraskan Student Union,” Schaffnitt said. Guests pay at the door.
