Offutt Brass, a chamber ensemble composed of brass players from the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band, will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall.
“They will perform some wonderful music from brass quintet literature, and the performance will also be very entertaining,” said Dr. James Payne, UNK professor of music. The concert is free and open to the public.
The group’s repertoire consists of classical, jazz and standard brass quintet music showcasing their diversity. In addition to the weekend concert, the quintet will conduct a masterclass for area music students at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to have students hear a professional brass ensemble so that they can have an aural picture of how their groups should sound,” Dr. Payne said. “In addition, they can increase their musical awareness in performing brass literature.” The chamber ensemble, which is made up of musicians from the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band, performs for military and civilian audiences.
