The University of Nebraska at Kearney Biology 480-Environmental Modeling class will have three robots navigate their way through an obstacle course Tuesday, April 8 at 2:45 p.m. in the basement of the Bruner Hall of Science. The Environmental Modeling class begins at 2:30 p.m. in BHS room 301.
“The purpose is to create models of animal behavior and adaptation,” said Dr. Marc Albrecht, assistant professor of biology. “Also in the class, we are touching on the recent interest in robots in the commercial media, such as TNN’s Robot Wars, and in the industrial and defense area.”

The robots are made with the LEGO® Mindstorms™ system. According to LEGO’s® website, Mindstorms™ lets one design and program real robots that can have everything from a light-sensitive intruder alarm to a robotic rover that can follow a trail and move around obstacles.
