The Department of Biology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney was awarded a $93,000 grant from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to study the production of zooplankton in the Harlan County Reservoir.
“We are taking samples from Harlan Reservoir and characterizing the zooplankton community there,” said Dr. Wyatt Hoback, assistant professor of biology. “We will be doing the study for two years in hopes of improving the walleye fishery and learning more about how irrigation reservoir work.”
The Nebraska Game and Parks and UNK are doing the research and are employing UNK graduate Brian Peterson and three undergraduates Michelle Christ of Kearney, Nick Fryda of Nelson, and John Madsen of Minden.
