UNK-The UNK Homecoming theme for this year is “Celebrating Our Heritage.” UNK has a number of spirited activities planned for the week, Nov. 5- 11. This year there will be 40 candidates for Homecoming king and queen, which will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 9.
According to UNK student union coordinator, Karla Falk, activities will begin on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. with the Mini-Rodeo. The excitement will continue Monday with a Limbo contest in the Nebraskan Student Union Courtyard at 4 p.m. On Tuesday the trike race will be held on the Nebraskan Student Union Courtyard at 4 p.m. Wednesday the Bed Race will be on the mall walkway at 4 p.m. Many events are planned for Thursday, starting off with the Senator Jerome Warner Evening sponsored by the UNK Political Science Department at the Alumni House from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The topic will be “Environmentalism and Public Lands,” featuring several speakers. After the presentation, there will be a public discussion in Copeland Hall, room 142 at 7:30 p.m. The Spirit Competition and the Lip Sync will be held on Thursday also in the Cushing Coliseum at 7 p.m. The Royalty Crowning will take place after the Lip Sync Contest.
The homecoming events on Friday consist of the lawn decoration judging at 2 p.m. and the Norris Scholarship Luncheon. The Norris Scholarship Luncheon will feature Kim Robak, UNK Vice President for External Affairs and Corporation Secretary speaking about “The Politics of Higher Education.” The luncheon will take place at the Museum of Nebraska Art at 12 p.m., tickets are .
Homecoming week ends on Sat., Nov. 11 with the Homecoming parade in downtown Kearney starting at 10 a.m. The flag raising will be at Harmon Park at 11 a.m. To finish off the week, the Lopers will face Western State at Foster Field at 1 p.m.
