UNK– Kevin Snyder, of Paxton, NE has been awarded the Herman J. Smith National Endowment Scholarship for the 2000-2001 academic year in the amount of $2000. The scholarship was created to honor Herman J. Smith, a Texas resident, and his lifelong commitment to both the housing industry and to the education of future generations of homebuilders. Snyder is a senior at the University of Nebraska at Kearney majoring in Construction Management.
Dr. Ken Larson, Professor of Construction Management at UNK commented, “Kevin consistently achieves at a high academic level and exemplifies the Nebraska work ethic. ” He goes the extra mile to see a task to fruition, never asking for recognition for himself but rather pursuing the good of the cause.”
The award Snyder received is given to only one undergraduate student in the United States. The preference for the scholarship was to be given to a Texas student but a Nebraska student was selected this year. The winner was selected on the criteria of financial need, career goals, academic achievement, employment history, extra curricular activities, and letters of recommendation. A photo of Snyder will appear in one of the fall 2000 issues of The Nations Building News.
