UNK-Artwork from 44 nationally known artists participating in the “Spirit of the Great Plains 2000” art sale and exhibition will be on display at the Museum of Nebraska Art on from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 7. Tickets for the special art preview will be $5 at the door. This is the only opportunity the general public will have to view all of the artwork that will be auctioned off during the art sale the following day.
Approximately 220 pieces will be on display on the main floor of the museum. Pieces by Buck Taylor, known for his portrayal of Newly O’Brien in “Gunsmoke,” and Kearney artist Martha Pettigrew will be included in the preview show. Pettigrew, Taylor, George Lundeen, Virginia Wattles and Kevin Red Star are a few of the artists who are participating in the “Spirit of the Great Plains 2000.”
More than 40 other guest artists have been invited to display five pieces of artwork that will be auctioned on Saturday, April 8. That day’s events will include a “quick draw” session when artists will complete artwork in one hour or less. Later, a silent auction and a live auction will give ticket holders an opportunity to purchase the exhibited art.
Tickets for the April 8 “Spirit of the Great Plains 2000” are $100 per person and seating is limited. For more information, contact the Museum of Nebraska Art at (308) 865-8559.
