UNK-Dr. Tom Osborne is scheduled to speak on the “Principles of Leadership” at 7 p.m. on March 28 in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Health and Sports Center.

Osborne will share his thoughts on leadership, encompassing leadership on the football field, in the classroom and at work. He will also discuss the Teammates Program that he and his wife, Nancy, have developed which matches local, at-risk junior high students with mentors in the community.

Osborne retired as the head coach of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cornhusker football team as the winningest active coach in Division 1-A. He was born and raised in Hastings, earned his B.A. in history from Hastings College and received his M.A. in educational psychology from UNL. He was named 1959 Nebraska athlete-of-the-year while he played football at Hastings College, and also played professional football for the Washington Redskins and the San Francisco 49ers before coaching at UNL.

“Tom Osborne has experienced many leadership opportunities. Students of all ages, teachers and community leaders will benefit from the message he will convey about the principles of leadership,” said Christine Scott of the UNK Leadership Development Council.

Tickets for “Principles of Leadership” are $3 in advance and $5 at the door and will be available March 10 at the Nebraskan Student Union, Misko Sporting Goods, Sporting Edge and Hastings Books, Music and Videos. UNK students will receive one free ticket with their student ID at the Nebraskan Student Union in the ID card office and the front desk.

The Leadership Development Council is sponsoring “Principles of Leadership.” LDC serves to recognize individuals who have attained a high standard of leadership in collegiate and/or community activities and encourage them to aspire to higher achievements. Members meet weekly to discuss events and plan leadership opportunities such as speakers and workshops for LDC members and the student body.
