UNK INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENTS RAISING FUNDS FOR CHICAGO TRIP

UNK- Fifteen University of Nebraska at Kearney interior design students are currently raising funds to attend the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) conference April 6-9 in Chicago.

To finance the trip, students have already taken part in projects including selling roses and raffle tickets, and have also sought donations from businesses. In addition, the students are offering their services as design pre-professionals to contractors and community members. At a rate of $15 per hour, the students have offered to work with clients concerning interior color schemes, floor planning, interior painting, general design consultation and more.

Tami Moore in the UNK department of Family Studies & Interior Design, said the students have done extensive coursework in the design field.

“They have had everything from, materials planning to space planning,” she said. “The students also have a lot of experience with art and design principles, and they are very adept with those skills.”

While at the KBIS conference, UNK students Sandy Lewandowski and Sherri Sloan will receive two of the top three national design awards, and the remaining 13 students will receive honorable mention awards. Also included in the conference activities are workshops and industry tours.

The students attending the conference and their hometowns are Jodi Van Fossen, Axtell; Kristen Hemsath, Curtis; Tiffany McAuliff, Gibbon; Alena Bast, Grand Island; Jenny Cook, Grand Island; Sandy Lewandowski, Grand Island; Lori Field, Kearney; Bechy Heishman, Kearney; Amber Peterson, Kearney; Sheri Sloan, Kearney; Catherine Snow, Kearney; Katie Younes, Kearney; Andrea Ruliffson, Lincoln; Megan Warren, Omaha; Christine Clevenger, Wauneta
