Sayo Kajiyama, Noah Burbul recognized as UNK Concerto/Aria Competition winners

KEARNEY – Sayo Kajiyama and Noah Burbul are the winners of this year’s Concerto/Aria Competition at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Conducted Oct. 9 in the Fine Arts Recital Hall on campus, the annual event recognizes and celebrates outstanding student performers at UNK while providing opportunities for professional growth. Each fall, student competitors perform for a jury of UNK music faculty during a public concert. Winners earn the privilege of performing as soloists with one of the large, instrumental ensembles on campus.

Kajiyama is a senior from Nara, Japan, studying music performance with a vocal emphasis. A vocalist and pianist, she’s part of the UNK Choraleers, Chamber Orchestra and Kearney Symphony Orchestra. Kajiyama will sing Gaetano Donizetti’s Introduction and Aria: “È lindo e civettin… o fancuille amorose” (from “Rita”) during the April 28 Kearney Symphony Orchestra concert.

Burbul is a sophomore from Kearney double majoring in chemistry and music. The violinist is part of Chamber Strings and Kearney Symphony Orchestra. He’ll perform the first movement of Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26 during the March 3 Kearney Symphony Orchestra concert.
